What are the dates for 2022?

What is The World Games?

The World Games is an extraordinary, international sports event held every four years, in the year following each Summer Olympic Games. Over the span of 11 days, more than 30 different sports holding over 3,600 athletes will be played in different venues spread across the city of Birmingham. The World Games generates worldwide exposure for participating sports and provides a highly visible stage on which athletes from more than 100 countries compete for gold.

Which events are played on which days during The World Games?

When do the gates open?

Gates will open 30 minutes before the start of the competition or the start of the session time.

What food or beverages are permitted to be brought into the competition areas?

Unopened water bottles will be permitted. Infant food and formula will be permitted, as long as it is in a clear bag. Any dietary restrictions will be allowed a small quantity of food in a clear plastic bag.

Are bags permitted at The Games?

Each fan may carry one bag that is clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC no larger than 12″ by x 6″ x 12″ or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar). Additionally, fans may also carry a small clutch purse no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″, with or without a handle or strap, that is subject to search.

What happens if I show up to the venue with an unapproved bag?

Guests carrying unapproved bags will be asked to return them to their vehicles. Empty, non-approved bags will still not be allowed into the venue and must be returned to the guest’s vehicle.

What is not allowed at the Games?

  • Umbrellas
  • Sealed packages of any kind
  • Briefcases
  • Backpacks
  • Aerosol Cans (including suntan lotion)
  • Commercial photographic or video cameras or recording devices
  • Tripods or Monopods for cameras
  • Hard coolers, or similar containers
  • Glass bottles or cans
  • Noise Making devices
  • Computers/Laptops/iPads/Kindles
  • Food (except for medical dietary or infant purposes)
  • Beverages (excluding 20 oz. or smaller sealed plastic water bottles)
  • Weapons (regardless of permit)
  • Pets (unless a service animal)

Can I leave the venue and re-enter?

No, each ticket allows one single entry to a venue.

Do you have ADA or handicapped seating?

Each venue will have ADA and handicap seating. For General Admission events, a section will be reserved for handicap seating. At reserved seat venues, there are specific assigned seats or areas for handicap seating.

SPECTATOR COVID-19 POLICY

The World Games 2022 has worked diligently to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is both safe and enjoyable. The International World Games Association and Birmingham Organizing Committee will continue to abide by all local and federal laws, and be nimble to adjust to any changes.

In accordance with the City of Birmingham’s mask guidelines, mask-wearing is not required but is optional at all venues and events of The World Games 2022.

Proof of vaccination is not required to attend The World Games 2022.

We do ask any fans that feel sick or have a known exposure to an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 to take precautions and stay home.

TRANSIT & PARKING

The World Games 2022 will feature a transportation line where attendees can park and ride to their destination. For more information, visit twg2022.com/ride.

KultureCity will provide a Sensory Inclusive Certification to the Birmingham World Games 2022 Opening and Closing Ceremonies, making it the first World Games to be KultureCity Sensory Inclusive Certified for the opening and closing ceremonies.

KultureCity will provide 500 Sensory Bags to be used at the World Games 2022 Opening and Closing Ceremonies and certain sport competitions for distribution to guests that have sensory needs/ disabilities.

HYDRATION AT THE GAMES

Spectators are permitted to enter outdoor venues with clear, non-glass refillable water bottles to enjoy complimentary water at The World Games. Water monsters are available free of charge and are located for refills near concession areas and main walkways.
At all events, main venue concessions will include Coca-Cola products for purchase, such as Dasani, Powerade and Coca-Colas.

CASHLESS POLICY

The World Games is a cashless event. All transactions that take place will be credit card only.

FOOD AT THE GAMES

Our TWG 2022 Plaza will feature a variety of food trucks open from 11 A.M-9 P.M during the games. For a list of food trucks, visit https://twg2022.com/plaza/  venue.

Our Main Concessions will be open all day. These will serve beer/seltzer/wine/coke products/and packaged goods like nuts, chips, granola bars. Main concessions will open when gates open and will begin serving alcohol at 12pm noon.

BJCC venues, including Legacy Arena, will have in-house concessions where guests can expect items like hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chicken fingers, pretzels, nachos, sides, packaged goods, candies, beer/seltzer/wine, and coke products.  These concessions will also open when gates open and will begin serving alcohol at 12pm noon.
