Legacy Arena’s Partners

Countless citizens, business leaders, and local government officials of Birmingham dedicated their time and energy toward making Legacy Arena this city’s favorite entertainment venue. Every one of them deserves recognition and thanks. In recent years, a few of Legacy Arena’s partners have gone above and beyond to make recent updates and sponsorship opportunities possible.

Local Leaders

Over the past five-plus years, Alabama’s state and local leaders have gone above and beyond in securing the continuation and improvements of Birmingham’s favorite venue.

  • Dennis Lathem, Board Chairman of the BJCCA’s board of directors; and Tad Snider, Executive Director and CEO of the BJCCA. Both individuals represent Birmingham’s finest, working day and night to ensure that citizens, students, and athletes continue the city’s fine traditions.
    • The Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Authority. This ingenious form of corporate governance is Birmingham’s bridge between vision and reality. The Authority raises funds, oversees construction, and takes heed of the people’s will. Without the BJCCA, none of this would be possible.
  • Alabama state senator, Jabo Waggoner. Senator Waggoner was key in passing the legislation necessary to fund Legacy Arena’s renovation and expansion. In a statement that made clear his ability to see the big picture, Senator Waggoner said that “ultimately, this is about economic development, tourism, and being able to stay competitive.”

Legacy Credit

Of course, none of this would be possible without Legacy Credit Union. On January 1, 2015, Birmingham’s favorite venue was officially renamed Legacy Arena. A stalwart organization that has served the greater Birmingham area for over 65 years, Legacy Community Federal Credit Union represents the best of Birmingham. Legacy’s role in improving the financial health of millions of Birmingham residents makes them the perfect sponsor.

Financial Backers

Tasked with finding the necessary funds to finance Legacy Arena’s renovations and expansion, the BJCCA sought well:

These reputable financial institutions carried out the underwriting, book running, and management of the bond sales without a hitch, allowing the improvements to move forth as such.

BJCC Founding Members

Decades of history trail Legacy Arena’s renaming and renovation. In the late 1950s and 60s, countless individuals, leaders, and institutions conceived of the BJCC, which made this all possible.

  • Those who plotted Operation New Birmingham,
  • Those who gained the right of way through two key railroad tracks, who helped pass Act 547,
  • Those who made the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Authority a reality–for without the BJCCA, there would be no funding for what would become the convention center, which includes the coliseum that would become Legacy Arena

We’d like to thank each and every one of our partners.
