Legacy Arena

On January 1, 2015, the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Complex (BJCC) signed with Legacy Community Federal Credit Union (LCFCU) to brand Birmingham’s favorite venue, Legacy Arena. Since 1976, Legacy Arena has gifted the greater metro area with irreplaceable memories. Citizens have witnessed four decades of generational talent and entertainment—from Bruce Springsteen to Jay-Z, professional wrestling to the NCAA tournament, Disney on Ice to the king himself, Elvis Presley.

Upcoming Renovations

Legacy’s sponsorship helps progress its mission to “bring value and positive economic impact to the people {they} serve,” says Legacy CEO, Joe McGee. Seldom does a company of Legacy’s size follow through with such bold commitments to their community. Legacy Arena, which seats over 18,000 people, celebrated its 40th birthday a bit more than a year after the sponsorship deal—but Birmingham’s favorite venue is still the best show in town. In fact, upon reopening, Legacy Arena will bring the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournament to Birmingham for the first time since 2008.

In 2020,The BJCC commissioned an expansion and renovation project, which will serve to significantly extend Legacy Arena’s longevity. We couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming renovations and restoration to both the arena’s interior and exterior. Before we know it, crowds will be flocking back to an exciting new version of Birmingham’s favorite venue: Legacy Arena.
